Thermal decoupling
The plastic casing of the universal flex plug prevents direct contact between the cavity wall tie and the inner wall leaf and therefore also prevents a thermal bridge from forming.
To prevent personal injury
The cavity wall tie can be inserted into the universal flex plug at a later stage during the masonry work. This means that there are no protruding parts on the outside of the structure that can cause personal injury during the construction project.
Flex plug, black
For use in combination with a universal cavity wall tie with a diameter of 4 mm
For insulation thicknesses up to 240 mm
Flex plug, green
For use in combination with a universal cavity wall tie with a diameter of 5 mm
Ideal for double insulation thicknesses on nearly zero-energy houses or flats, for example
For insulation thicknesses up to 320 mm
Würth and GB encourage the use of sustainable materials and advise using A4 stainless-steel cavity wall ties and, in certain situations, A2 stainless-steel cavity wall ties in outer walls. This is supported by the Dutch Buildings Decree 2012/Eurocode 6.
- Correct length of universal flex plug = insulation thickness + depth of impact in inner cavity wall (40–60 mm).
- Correct length of universal cavity wall tie = length of universal flex plug + air cavity + depth of insertion in outer wall (45–75 mm).
- Correct drive-in pipe = length of universal impact cavity wall tie - universal flex plug = maximum internal dimensions. If the internal dimensions are too large, the drive-in pipe can be cut to the correct length.
